Flowers in Bloom
By: Rona Shedd
Today as I inched along in the morning school traffic I saw a beautiful tree with buds all over it. The buds were completely closed, yet I know that just inside their thick protective covering there is a gorgeous burst of color and life that is forming. It really made me think. Some of the buds won’t open at the same time, some of the buds will open early, some of the buds will be crushed by storms that come in the Spring, some of the buds will open slowly but in full bloom they will be the most elegant, graceful, and vibrant colored.
We are all like these buds in our walk with the Lord. We start out just a forming bud. We are inside the protective covering that the Lord has placed around us called Grace. We see other buds in full bloom and long to be like them, but yet we need to continue to grow at our own pace. We cannot compare our growth to others, some will far exceed our growth, yet some will make mistakes that reflect where they are in their walk, they too are learning, growing. Eventually, the rain will come, the winds, the storms and try to knock us down. That is why we have the protection of God’s grace to keep us steady. That is also why He teaches us through lessons in the Bible, through sermons, and through others on our paths how to weather the storms. It’s not all the same, we are all different. One will struggle with their health, one with tempation to induldge in pleasures of the world, one with saying things they shouldn’t, one with envy, we all will struggle daily with different things. Looking around at others and realizing that we are all in our own journey is so very important. It’s easy to decide that someone should or shouldn’t be doing something that we know in our own lives would be wrong for us. A knife of judgement could come and cut off not just one bloom, but a whole branch, destroying us and taking others with us. That is why being a living example is so important. Yet our priority is to make sure that we stay focused on our one goal: developing into the beautiful creation God has made us for. We should have understanding and compassion for others realizing that God is shaping them too. That doesn’t take the sting away when someone hurts us, but it should remind us that we are to forgive and pray that God will lead them to make better choices next time and to also forgive. I’m so thankful that God gives us beautiful reminders in nature to show us how we should live our lives. I hope this helps someone today in their walk with the Lord and gives hope to some who may be struggling.
Colossians 1:9-14 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
