At any given point, you could ask me what book I am reading and quickly I would name a handful at least. I have no idea why I do this. I just do. I love a great story, especially if it’s one infused with my Lord. There’s a lot of them out there. And, because I have mild tendencies to procrastinate… (In Jesus name I’m gonna overcome this!). Finishing a book is rare.
However, as Simple Living seems to be ever constant in my mind… I can’t help but walk through the day looking for the real needs.
As I sit, I see a bookcase reaching the ceiling filled with self-helps and so-carefully constructed titles for the thirstysoul.
As I scroll over spines of honestly, really great books and ever encouraging words, I wonder if it’s pages are truly life giving to these brittle bones.
Before I know it, I have filled up every inch of free time or intentional time with a stack of books and a weighty sense to just get it done. No real manna here.
Now, don’t get me wrong… I’m ALL about a great story. But I think somewhere along the way we’ve managed to put such a wedge between ourselves and His Holy WORD.
Somehow, in this world of consuming we’ve gotten hung up on the presentation of the plate and completely lost site of the importance for real nutrition; the NEED for sustenance.
In a world full of stuff SIMPLY KNOW His word the Holy Bible is THE only book you really need.

I don’t know about you… But for a bookstore junkie… Oh! There is such a relief. The simplicity of clearly knowing I only need one book allows me to not feel pressured (by my weird self) to read the latest and greatest. There isn’t a more profound, life changing book than the Divinely inspired Word of GOD.

Let’s stop over complicating this one… Let’s just get back to The Bible.

..this is part of a 31 Days series of Simple Living.

Seeking a more simple way of life.
Simple Living for the sake of a more Holy, abundant life indwelling with His presence.

  1. Larry Gamble says:

No matter what you read, always come back to The Word Of God. ” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” John 1:1.
