Last night I sat here with my kids coloring on the kitchen window. (Crayola’s Window Markers, they are actually pretty neat & washable). As Lily drew flowers, clouds and hearts, Waylon scribbled on everything but the window, I asked Lu to name a scripture for me to write on my little square of glass. John 3:16 was her response, so it’s the scripture of all scriptures that colorfully adorns my kitchen window as I type this.
John 3:16 NIV
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
“Making one”:
Being raised Catholic most of my life with a small gap of non-church going, I’m now a proud Nazarene Church member. It’s been hard for me to forget what I was raised on and start over from scratch with God. However one thing that burned into my brain from the years of attending Catholic school with several weekly Masses is the atonement of Jesus Christ. Even as a child I understood the magnitude, that my eternal salvation had been paid for by Jesus’ death at Calvary.
Atonement: the act by which God and man are brought together in personal relationship.
“making one”
‘at-one-ment’
No greater love:
For God so loved YOU and ME that He gave His one and only son…..
If it were not for God’s plan to sacrifice His precious Son we sinners would be hopeless. When He gave His life on that cross He suffered the penalty of our sins. Giving us the opportunity to reconcile with God and bridging the gap between the created and The Creator.
It’s through His blood we can be washed clean and receive the gift of eternal salvation.
The tune in my head tonight:
(seems fitting)
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Now by this I’ll overcome—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I’ll reach my home—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Glory! Glory! This I sing—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
All my praise for this I bring—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
