when the storm passes by…

This past weekend marked the two-year anniversary of the ravishing, deadly tornado rightfully named, April’s Fury that swept  through Alabama.  It came like a wrecking ball and destroyed most everything in its path…  most everything.

Why do we immediately focus on the struggle when things get so bad?  I know…  it was almost impossible to look around at the destruction and not see anything other than the struggle that lie ahead.  That tornado, that fury of a storm that blew in on our April afternoon, brought more than ferocious wind and rain.  And, it left more than destroyed homes and misplaced lives.

I sat in our safe place with my family and listened to the deadly winds pass over our home and knew that the giant beast wasn’t very far from this place we considered “safe”…

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalms 91:1-2

Through the storm that blew in that April day and through the struggle it left behind ~ truly there is only one safe place for which we shall abide…

In the roaring of the wind, He whispers, cling to me…  hold tight and remain in the crevice of the rock and I will cover you till the storm passes through.

That day brought many different storms for many different people…  It seems everyday, the enemy is whirling up the winds around us…  Focus on Him and not the struggle.   Abide under His wing until the storm passes you by…  it WILL pass through.

The storms we face may bring darkness, but in Him…  the SON will shine again!
