RADIANT | Day 23…

Late one night after the kids had worn themselves out from the day and were quiet in bed we sat in the dark. Exhausted, but thankful for a quiet moment, we fought our heavy lids and milked the moment.  I pretended to watch television while I was thrilled to steal a moment alone with him. Almost asleep I heard him say his name… Blake Mayo.  I looked up and he had been searching old baseball memories and came across a familiar name and an old friend.

Immediately, I remembered Blake and his kind smile… such a good guy!  See, not only are we Jesus freaks but we are a little crazy about BASEBALL too!  Andy and Blake played college baseball together back in the day…  We had some really fun times and even back then Blake and his sweet family made an impression on Andy and I.  As we reminisced we hunkered in behind the screen and read… clicking through pages…  there was no doubt the Lord begin to stir  in both of us.

As God was showing me how to be RADIANT for Him, I knew I had to share what we had found…  I had to share Blake and Laura’s story and their obedience to His call.

Over the next few days, Andy and I soaked in their words, their heart and their mission. Their desire to be more radical for Christ, completely depending on our Lord, was convicting and most importantly encouraging!

Andy and I couldn’t help but reach out and contact Blake and let him know how his love for God had stirred and encouraged us in our walk with Christ.  I knew I had to share Blake and Laura’s story in our Radiant series…  In all their humbleness ~ Blake and Laura are truly RADIANT, shining Christ light for others.  I ask Blake in all their craziness to please take a moment and share their thoughts on being RADIANT!  I am so thankful he said yes!  Please take a moment, read their words and get to know The Mayo’s and their Mission  to be Radiant for Christ…

Radiant – beaming-brilliant-gleaming-glittering-glorious-glowing-shining-sparkling

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

The topic is radiant, but allow me to interject what I believe has to be the real key to radiance.  Worship.  How can one be Radiant and not be a worshipper?  I would say it is impossible.  The Radiance of God can only be visible through a life of one who worships Jesus.  Maybe this quote regarding missions and worship will help us understand how we can be more radiant.  “Missions exist because worship doesn’t.”  What?  Read it again, several times if necessary.  John Piper said this because he realized that missions was temporary and worship was eternal.  Just because we are labeled missionaries doesn’t imply that we are Radiant.  To be radiant demands that we be worshippers.

So why are we going to Cameroon to serve and aid in Bible Translation?  Because, we want those who have never heard or read about Jesus in their own language to be able to.  The main goal is that all peoples (nations, tribes, tongues) will have the opportunity to hear about Jesus, believe in Jesus and worship Jesus…….therefore becoming Radiant.

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!””  Revelation 7:9-10 (ESV)

We could never muster up enough righteousness on our own to be Radiant to the point that we effect others, eternally.  This is something God has to do in and through us.  Having a living relationship with the Creator of everything is the foundation of a radiant life.  We live in order to make much of Jesus and His Gospel. This happens because we love Him and desire to worship Him, and so we walk in the light as He is in the light.  Radiant!

I am so hankful for reconnecting with The Mayo’s!  Aren’t they a beautiful family~ truly RADIANT!  I ask that you please head over and read more about their mission and where God has got this great family!

If your heart is stirred by what God is doing in their life ~ please read how you can partner with them and join their mission!

{thank you Blake and Laura for sharing!}
